Charles Steedman autobiography, 1877.

Four small volumes containing the detailed holograph autobiography of Charles Steedman written at Glen House, New Hampshire. Volumes contain biographical and genealogical data about the Steedman family including information about his grandfather James Steedman, a Charleston, South Carolina architect; and his father Charles John Steedman, a politician, St. James Parish (S.C.) plantation owner, and the president of the Planters and Mechanics Bank of Charleston. Steedman discusses his youth and education, a hurricane in 1822 which hit the coast of Georgia and the Carolinas, Captain John Blake, and his early experiences as a sailor. Includes information about Steedman's service in the Navy and his travels in Europe.
